Threatening email sent to school districts statewide; SCSD currently in a lockout

UPDATE: 3:00PM

The email threat sent to local school districts this morning has been deemed non-credible after law enforcement’s investigation. The email was a form of “swatting,” which is the act of making false threats to schools by email/phone and usually draws a large police response.

After this morning’s events, all schools in the Stillwater Central School District remained on lockout until dismissal. After school outdoor activities then resumed as normal.

We would like to thank the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office for their response to today’s incident and their continued partnership with the district. Having strong relationships with our community partners enables SCSD to be prepared for these types of situations and act accordingly.

Moving forward, the safety and security of our students and staff will continue to be our highest priority. Thank you for your continued support and cooperation.

Stillwater Central School District

This morning around 9:30AM, school districts across the Capital Region received an email threat stating bombs had been placed in schools throughout the state. While Stillwater Central School District has not received this threat, we’ve entered a district-wide lockout out of an abundance of caution.

During a lockout, no one is allowed to enter or exit any of our school buildings. Doors remain locked while students, staff and administrators proceed with their normal activities. Daytime activities will be conducted indoors, while after school outdoor activities will be decided upon in the next few hours.

SCSD will work closely with our law enforcement partners throughout the day as the situation continues to be investigated. As always, the safety of our students and staff is of the utmost importance and the district remains on heightened alert.

We will communicate an update to families as more information becomes available.

Thank you.
