The spotlight is on the Stillwater Middle School Drama Club as students prepare to take the stage for their upcoming production of “Fame, Jr.” Adapted from the original version, the popular musical is set in the early 1980s and tells the story of a diverse group of students who commit to four years of demanding artistic and academic work at New York City’s prestigious High School for Performing Arts. With electrifying musical numbers and captivating dialogue, students learn to navigate the highly competitive performing arts world while simultaneously confronting issues that many young people today grapple with.
Opening night for “Fame, Jr.” is scheduled for Wednesday, March 6th at 7:00PM in the MS/HS Auditorium, with additional performances on Friday, March 8th and Saturday, March 9th at the same time. Tickets are $5 per person for all shows, with the exception of March 6th – also known as “Stillwater Spotlight: A Night at the Theatre” – which will provide free admission to all SCSD students and staff. All other attendees will be required to purchase tickets for the Wednesday night show.
In addition to the three performances, the middle school Drama Club will host a “matinee” show for assisted-living adults and members of the VFW at 9:30AM on March 6th. This performance will feature the show’s understudies – mostly sixth grade students – in the main roles, providing them the opportunity to be the lead in front of a small audience.
With sensational musical performances, an inspiring story and a plethora of showtimes, “Fame, Jr.” is ideal for theatre fans or a family night out. Don’t miss out on this exciting opportunity to see the Stillwater Middle School Drama Club in action as they dance, sing and act in this legendary production.
