Phase 1 of the district’s capital project is underway. Voters approved the $23.1 million project in December 2016, which includes a variety of improvements to district facilities, including structural renovations, paving and drainage work, asbestos abatement, and security upgrades.
Capital Project Phase 1
Elementary School
Construction work will take place throughout the summer at the elementary school. The remaining skylights will be removed (except for in the gym) and electrical work, light installation and interior finishing will be done in those areas. Additionally, a new ventilation system will be installed in the kitchen and sections of the roof will be replaced. Earlier this month, work on a secured entryway began and it is expected to be done by early October. The elementary school parking lot will also be paved before the start of the school year.
The elementary school will be open to staff throughout the summer. However, summer programming will occur in the downstairs wing of the high school.
Middle/High School
This summer, asbestos removal will take place in several of the middle/high school classrooms, as well as in the mezzanine above the high school cafeteria. This work is essential so that new heating/air ventilation units can be installed. In order for this work to take place, the construction team will need to gain access to the mezzanine above the cafeteria through the fitness center. Therefore, the fitness center is closed for the summer and is expected to reopen at the start of school.
Additionally, demolition will begin in the auditorium wing from where the student center is, all the way down to the auditorium. This will allow for the construction of new conference rooms and office space, as well as renovated music space.
The work scheduled for inside the auditorium is not included in phase 1 of the project and students will continue to have access to that area through the auditorium hallway.
Capital Project Phase 2
MS/HS Auditorium Wing
At this time, phase 2 of the project is scheduled to begin next summer. This phase will include the installation of additional seating in the auditorium, the establishment of a new entryway on the side of the auditorium, a new main entryway from the high school parking, updates to lighting and the rigging system and the expansion of the back stage area.
Bus Garage
Phase 2 will also include replacing the roof on the bus garage, the expansion of two bays and the remodeling of office space.
