The New York State School Boards Association (NYSSBA) recognizes October 14-18 as School Board Recognition Week. It’s a time to highlight the vital role school boards play in the education system and the valuable work they perform, as they are tasked with one of the greatest responsibilities: managing the education of their communities and setting standards and practices designed to help students succeed.
The Stillwater Central School District Board of Education consists of nine members elected by voters in the district. These individuals volunteer their time to improve the SCSD educational experience and are not compensated for their service. The Board continually strives to fulfill the district’s mission through its work, setting long-term goals and providing guidance on everything from policy to curriculum. Most importantly, the Board gives Stillwater residents a voice in education decision-making.
“Strong schools are the foundation of strong communities and these men and women dedicate countless hours to ensure our schools are equipped with the necessary resources for student success,” said Superintendent of Schools Joseph Mariano. “They make the difficult decisions every month and spend many hours reviewing education issues and regulations in order to meet the expectations of our community stakeholders.”
According to Superintendent Mariano, the key work of school boards is to raise student achievement by developing a shared vision and goals for the district, in addition to ensuring strategies, resources, policies and programs align with those goals. Moreover, supporting a healthy school district climate fosters a positive environment where learning can thrive and success is attainable for all.
Thank you to the SCSD Board of Education for the extraordinary work they do each day and their commitment to providing individualized, exceptional experiences for all students:
