The Stillwater Central School District Board of Education is pleased to announce its intent to appoint Mr. Joseph Mariano, Jr. as Superintendent of Schools at a regular meeting of the Board of Education on December 12, 2023. Mr. Mariano is currently the High School Executive Principal at the Troy City School District.
Board President Rob McCoy stated, “On behalf of the Stillwater Board of Education, we are pleased to announce our selection of Joseph Mariano to be the next Superintendent of the Stillwater Central School District. After a very thorough process it became clear that Joseph has the skills, experience, and character we are looking for to lead our district. We are confident that his experiences throughout his career will make him successful.”
The Board is offering Mr. Mariano a 3-year agreement with an initial salary of $168,000. He is expected to begin his duties on February 9, 2024.
Mr. Mariano has served as the High School Executive Principal at the Troy City School District for the past 12 years. He began his teaching career at the South Colonie Central School District as a High School Social Studies Teacher in September 2000. In July of 2006 he joined Troy City School District as the Dean of Students until October of 2007 when he was appointed to the position of Assistant Principal.

Mr. Mariano earned a Bachelor of Science in Finance at Siena College in 1989, a Master of Science in Secondary Education Social Studies from The College of Saint Rose in 1999. He also holds the NYS School District Administrator Certificate (SDA).
WSWHE BOCES District Superintendent Dr. Turina Parker, who coordinated the search on behalf of the district said, “The board carried out a competitive search and selection process, resulting in a high quality candidate who is well positioned to lead the district.”
Joseph Mariano, Jr. will replace Superintendent of Schools Patricia Morris. Joseph lives in Cohoes with his wife, Susan, and his three children Tori, Tre, and Tye. He enjoys traveling, playing golf, reading, and spending time with his family.
