Athletics update: track and field sectional champions; wrestling Section 2 Class CC Championship Tournament

Congratulations to the wrestling team on their performance in the Section 2 Class CC Championship Tournament, which was held on Saturday, Feb. 3.

Ben Rubinstein entered the tournament seeded second and finished the competition that day with a perfect 3-0 record, including an 8-5 win over the number one seed and defending Class CC Champion in the finals. He improved his season record to 25-5 and earned a spot in the Section 2 State Qualifer at the Cool Insuring Arena in Glens Falls on Saturday, Feb. 10.

Gavin Potter (4th) and Ryan Riley (4th) also secured their spots for this weekend’s qualifer. Lee Scoville (5th) is an alternate. The team placed fourth overall.

Indoor Track & Field

Congratulations to Stillwater High School juniors Anthony Zazzaro and Izzy Mack on their stellar performances at the Section 2 Division IV Indoor Track & Field Championships!

Held on Sunday, Jan. 28 at Union College in Schenectady, Izzy won the Sectional Long Jump Championship and placed second in the 45-meter dash.

Anthony was the Sectional MVP and won the triple crown, placing first in the 1600, 3200 and 1000 meter dashes.

Both athletes will move on to the State Qualifiers, which will be held Saturday, Feb. 10 at Hudson Valley Community College. Both students will have the opportunity to represent Stillwater — in addition to all of Section 2 — at the state meet in March, with Izzy competing in the long jump and Anthony competing in the 3200-meter dash.
