Dear Stillwater Community,
I wanted to provide you with an update as to where we currently stand as a district regarding the coronavirus. As of today, Thursday, March 12, the Stillwater Central School District does not have any confirmed cases of COVID-19. We continue to carefully monitor information from local, state and federal officials.
This coming Monday, March 16 is a Superintendent’s Conference Day for our middle and high school staff. I have decided to forgo our original agenda and our middle and high school teachers will now work on plans that will allow them to continue educating students in the event of a school/ district closure. There is no current indication that a school or district closure will take place; this is a proactive measure on our part to ensure that we are all prepared and on the same page. While the elementary school teachers can not be part of Monday’s conference due to the use of emergency days earlier this year, we are working on a plan for them as well.
I would like to reiterate that experts from the New York State Department of Health have not recommended that the district cancel or reschedule classes or other school events at this time. Accordingly, all school based curricular activities will continue unless we receive different guidance from the New York State Department of Health or the governor’s office.
State officials continue to emphasize that the general risk to the public is low and that while we all need to be vigilant and cautious, it is also important to stay calm and not contribute to any undue panic.
We will continue to share more information as it becomes available. As always, reach out if you have any questions.
Sincerely,
Patricia Morris
Superintendent
