End-of-year message from Superintendent Morris & parent/student surveys

Dear Stillwater Community,

While this has been a year like no other, I wanted to take the time to thank you for the adjustments you have made to support our students. Our community is a tribe, where our UPK-12 students are the youngest Warriors, raised by all. We teach, model, support, guide and nurture them together. Following the school closure on March 17, we all had to think outside the box to ensure that our kids were taken care of. From remote instruction, meals-on-the-go, home visits and instructional support to banners, t-shirts, lawn signs, a billboard and gift baskets for our seniors. This tribe came together to raise our children up. Thank you for all you have done.

As a district, we have faced many challenges this spring. In particular, we managed to plan a comprehensive, fiscally responsible budget during uncertain times. Thank you to those of you who voted in this year’s budget vote and school board election, and as always, thank you for supporting our students and programs.

As we wind down the 2019-20 school year, we are already planning for the fall. Our district has established a Return-to-Learn Committee composed of 12 different teams. Each team has been tasked to work on various aspects of reopening. While we do not know what will be allowed through state orders, or what restrictions will still be in place, we do know that we have a lot to consider as we plan for a safe and smooth transition back to school.

As part of the Return-to-Learn Committee work, we are asking our families and students to participate in a brief survey. The information provided will help us determine the best way to support our children when we reopen. Please complete your survey by June 30, 2020 and ask your student to do the same.

Again, I want to thank you all. We could not have made it through this school year without you. It is a pleasure serving our children. I look forward to the day when I can see them all back on campus! Have a safe and happy summer.

Sincerely,

Patricia Morris
Superintendent
