Stillwater to induct 2017 Athletic Hall of Fame Class on Oct. 6

Sept. 15, 2017-  On Friday, Oct. 6, the newest members of the Stillwater Athletic Hall of Fame will be inducted. This year’s inductees are Jackie Blake, Deborah Dennis, Bobby Maher, and Michelle (Dunn) Mercier. The inductees will be honored in the middle school cafeteria at 6 p.m. before the varsity Indian Bowl game versus Mechanicville. They will also be honored on the field during halftime. Congratulations to this year's class! Below is a list of some of their accomplishments.

Jackie Blake, Coach

Coach Blake’s team motto: “Be prepared and enjoy the journey!”

  • Girls Varsity Soccer coach for 11 seasons (1999-2009)
  • Overall coaching record of 169-49-15
  • 2002 Section II Class C/CC Champion
  • 2002 RegionaI Champion & NYS Final Four
  • 2005 NYS Class C Coach of the Year
  • 2006 Section II Class C/CC Champion
  • 2006 RegionaI Champion & NYS Final Four
  • 2008 Wasaren League Champions
  • 2009 Section II Class B Co-Champions
  • 2009 Times Union Class C Coach of the Year
  • 2009 Troy Record Class C Coach of the Year

 

Deborah Dennis, Athlete, Class of 1977
  • Four-year, four-sport varsity athlete 1973-1977
  • Played Field Hockey, Volleyball, Basketball and Softball
  • MVP in all four sports senior year
  • First girl to win Chieftain's Cup in 1977
  • Earned a full scholarship to play field hockey at Southern Illinois University
  • Player on the first USA Women’s Rugby team in 1987 and earned two international caps
  • Coached All-Blue Rugby Club for four years (1992-93, 1995-97)
  • Coached Piedmont High Girls’ Rugby Club for two years (1998-99)
  • USTA Ranked tennis player (2007-2012)
  • Competitive outrigger canoe racer for 10 years (2000-2010)

Bobby Maher, athlete, Class of 1970
  • Varsity Baseball 1968, 1969, 1970 (captain senior year)
  • Section 2 Class D Baseball title in 1969
  • League Baseball Champions 1969
  • Selected to the All-League team for baseball
  • Varsity Football 1969 & 1970 (Captain senior year)
  • Varsity Basketball 1969 & 1970 (Captain senior year)
  • Selected to the All-League team for basketball, and track and field.
  • Led the league in scoring junior year
  • Varsity Track & Field 1968, 1969, 1970 (Captain senior year)
  • Section 2 Class D Track & Field champions 1969 & 1970
  • Selected to the All-League team for track and field
  • Played three years varsity basketball & four years varsity baseball at SUNY Plattsburgh
  • Inducted into the SUNY Plattsburgh Athletic Hall of Fame in 1985

 

Michelle (Dunn) Mercier, athlete, Class of 1991
  • Two-time Chieftain Cup winner (1990 & 1991)
  • Stillwater Athletic Excellence Award Winner
  • Varsity Field Hockey 1987-1991 (Captain junior and senior year)
  • Varsity Basketball 1987-1991 (Captain junior and senior year)
  • Career 1348 points in basketball (Finished career in top 25 scoring in Section II)
  • Two-time Wasaren League Basketball All-Star
  • Two-time Troy Record 2nd team Basketball All-Star
  • Two-time Mechanicville Tip-Off Tournament all-tournament team
  • Galway Basketball Tournament MVP
  • Bishop Scully Basketball tournament MVP
  • Bishop Scully Basketball tournament all-tournament team
  • Saratogian Basketball Dream Team selection in 1990
