Fifth graders partner with GE engineers for STEAM project

June 9, 2017- Engineers from General Electric of Schenectady recently teamed up with Stillwater fifth graders.

On Tuesday, June 6, the engineers partnered with the students and created an awesome STEAM project. The engineers presented and discussed different renewable and nonrenewable resources to the students before breaking them up into teams to build wind-turbines.

“We need to keep on preparing and education our students for jobs that do not even exist yet,” Elementary Principal Paul Morcone said. “In conjunction with our general science curriculum, Makerspace set up and Next Generations standards, it’s important for our school to bring these hands-on opportunities to our children.”

Awards were given to the students for most productive/efficient (lifts most weight), quality (no tower strikes, stays intact), and most creative.
