March 10, 2017 – The following message was included in
the most recent edition of the middle school newsletter. I wanted to
make sure that this information reached all parents/guardians prior to
testing later this month.
At the end of this month students will take the first of the NYS exams, the ELA exam. The NYS Math exam is in early May and the Science exam (8th grade only) is in early June. We encourage all students to take these exams for many reasons, but programmatically speaking, it helps us make decisions and offer services in each child's best educational interest. We do however respect the right of each family to make this decision.
For logistical reasons, we require that any test refusals be submitted in writing to the Principal at least 24 hours before testing begins and must clearly indicate the exam(s) the child is refusing to take along with a parent signature. Students who bring a note in on the day of an exam will not be required to take the exam, but will also not be taken out of the testing location until the next day for logistical reasons. The expectation for any student not taking the exam is that they will be reading or quietly working.
