Dear Stillwater community,
It’s hard to believe we are already a month into the new year! I hope you have had the ability to refresh and renew!
Now that we are about half way through the school year, I wanted to take this time to inform everyone of some changes that have been made to the New York State School Safety Plan.
As you know, the district periodically holds safety drills that give students and staff the opportunity to review and practice procedures and protocols. These drills are an important part of our school safety plans and are designed to make sure everyone knows how to act in an emergency situation.
Due to recent changes in legislation, the district will be holding a total of eight fire drills and four lockdown drills this year.
In the fall there was an incident where the district was advised to go into lockdown. That lockdown counts toward that total number, as well as the drill that was already planned and held the following day. Therefore, two lockdown drills and the mandated amount of fire drills for the fall/winter have been completed.
With that being said, we will be having two unannounced lockdown drills in the spring.
We feel it is important for students and staff to know how to act in a variety of emergency situations. As always, student safety is our number one priority and these drills are meant to educate in case of a real emergency.
Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions.
