A letter from the superintendent regarding upcoming lockdown drills

Oct. 31, 2016

Dear parents/guardians,

On Thursday, Nov. 10, elementary, middle and high school students and staff will participate in a formal lockdown drill at each building. Each drill will take place during regular school hours. To ensure that they are as effective and serious as possible, we cannot tell you the exact time of the drills.

To comply with Education Law ยง807 (recently updated), our district will conduct four lockdown drills this year. The subsequent three drills will be unannounced. As always, we continue to include local and state police as well as the Sheriff’s department when we practice. Following our drills, we debrief and analyze procedures for optimal safety.

Our district has worked diligently to be proactive about safety, security, and planning ahead for potential emergencies. While we discuss lockdown drills each year with our students, we hope that you take this opportunity to discuss safety with your child. Please remember that the goal of these practice drills is to reassure students that there is a district safety plan and that they are an important part of it.

Please note, November 10 is also the day of our district’s annual early release drill. Students at the middle/ high will be released at 2:04 p.m. Elementary students will be released at 3 p.m.

All of the information above is also provided through our district’s School News Notifier (SNN). These email notifications include district news, as well as information about emergencies. Please register to receive these emails if you have not already done so. This can be done by going to the district’s home page ( and clicking on the SNN link at the right side of the page. Follow the prompts to register.

As always, thank you for your support and cooperation. Please feel free to contact me if you would like any additional information.
