Stillwater names top graduates from the Class of 2016

May 17, 2016 – Congratulations to Mitchel Wayand, who has been named the Stillwater Class of 2016 valedictorian, and Summer Sheehan, who has been named salutatorian. Both students will be honored at the commencement ceremony on Saturday, June 25.

Mitchel will be going to RPI in the fall, where he plans to study bio-medical engineering and play on the basketball team. He hopes to one day start his own practice designing and building prosthetics.

During his high school career, Mitchel has been involved in National Honor Society, Key Club (vice president) and Varsity Basketball.

When asked what he’s going to miss most about Stillwater, Mitchel said, “I’ll miss the one-on-one, personal education I received and how tight knit the school is.”

Mitchel would like to thank all of his teachers at Stillwater for caring about not only him, but every student. “They all work really hard and always put in so much effort for us,” Mitchel said. He would also like to thank Coach Cook for being a great influence on him and his parents for always being supportive and reminding him to do his homework.

Mitchel is the son of Chuck and Gina Wayand. He has one sister, Sydney.

Summer plans to attend Liberty University in the fall. Her goal is to major in communications with a dual minor in theater and music performance. Summer would like to work in the Christian music industry in the future, but if that doesn’t work out she would like to work for her family’s speech-coaching business.

While at Stillwater, Summer was involved in Drama Club, Student Government, and Chamber Singers.

Summer’s favorite memories from her time at Stillwater include all of her drama performances, especially when she was the lead in “Xanadu” her sophomore year. Summer also says the Top Six Dinner was something very special to her.

“I will really miss the people at Stillwater, the teachers and the students, especially all of my drama friends,” Summer said.

She would like to thank Ms. Pitkin, her directors Justin and Jim, and her parents for all of their support and encouragement throughout the years.

Summer is the daughter of Dan and Kim Sheehan. She has one sister, Faith.
