May 17, 2016 – On Tuesday, May 17, Stillwater residents voted to approve the district's 2016-17 proposed budget with 389 voting in favor and 158 voting against it.
The $23,989,459 budget carries a 1.17 percent spending increase over the current year and a 4.81 percent increase in the tax levy. Final tax rates are estimated to increase by 2 percent or less and will be set in August.
“I want to thank everyone who came out and voted,” said Superintendent Stanley Maziejka. “The approval shows that our community understands and values the education and programs that we provide for our students.”
By a margin of 400 to 139, voters passed a proposition to establish a capital reserve fund of $100,000 to make repairs to the HVAC, electrical and plumbing systems at the elementary school, middle school and transportation building. By a margin of 392 to 143, voters also passed an additional proposition to expend the monies in the capital reserve fund of $100,000 to make HVAC, electrical and plumbing repairs to the three buildings.
The proposition to fund the Stillwater Free Library for $222,495 was approved with 422 voting in favor and 128 voting against it.
Residents also elected incumbent Valerie Masterson, Shay Valigorsky, and Kristina Greene to the Stillwater Board of Education. The results are as follows: Valerie Masterson (339 votes), Shay Valigorsky (267 votes), and Kristina Greene (351 votes). Each will serve a three-year term, beginning July 1, 2016 and ending June 30, 2019.
