Winter sports teams earn numerous recognitions

Wrestling

The wrestling team competed at the Section 2 Class “CC” Championships on Saturday, Feb. 9. The top four finishers advanced to the Glens Falls Civic Center for a state qualifier tournament, which will be held this Saturday, Feb. 13 and Sunday, Feb. 14.

Luke Richardson picked up his 23rd and 24th wins of the year. His only loss was to the Class “CC” champion and he placed third overall. The senior will be a low seed at this weekend’s tournament.

Frank Darwak won the title of "Class CC Champion" for his weight class, improving his record to 27-5 on the season and recording the fastest pin of any of the 75 individual champions in Section 2. With the win, Frank, a junior, becomes the first Stillwater wrestler to win a Section 2 classification tournament since Mike Simoncavage in 1979. Last year Frank became only the second wrester in Stillwater history to place at the qualifier when he placed sixth. Andy Maciariello took fourth in 1974. Frank will also be heading to the state qualifier tournament this weekend

Bowling 

Britaney Myers bowled a personal high six game total with 1199 at Sectionals on Saturday, Feb. 6. The junior also bowled a high series with a 634 at Sectionals. Britaney earned Adirondack League First Team All Star honors with a 203 average for the season. She was awarded for having the highest three game series in the Adirondack South with a 722.

Indoor Track

The boys indoor track team brought home the Wasaren League team title for the seventh year in a row on Saturday, Feb. 6. The team won by a narrow margin of 129-128.5 over Mechanicville.

The following athletes were selected for the Wasaren All-Star team: Max Lautenberg, Dan Foley, Joe Stewart, Jake Tyler, Faith Sheehan, Brooke Brinsko, Emily Stevens, and Madison Krochina

The following nine athletes have achieved one or more standards required to represent Stillwater at the State Qualifier Monday, Feb. 15:

Faith Sheehan: 55m, 300m, 4x200m
Brooke Brinsko: 55m, 4x200m
Avery Hebert: 55m hurdles
Tori Hamilton: 4x200m
Jordan Dunn: 4x200m
Emily Stevens: high jump, pole vault, and weight throw
Madison Krochina: shot put and weight throw
Jake Tyler: pole vault
Dan Foley: 300m

Boys Varsity Basketball

The boys varsity basketball team was named Wasaren League Champions for the 2015-16 season. The team finished 12-2 in the league and 16-4 overall.
