Stillwater to induct four new members to athletic hall of fame

Dec. 3, 2015 — On Wednesday, Dec. 30, four individuals will be recognized for their athletic accomplishments and pride in Stillwater Central School District’s rich athletic traditions.

Melissa Gaughan (Zdonick) (Class of 1986), Richard “Dick” Goverski (Class of 1961), Mark Mondoux (Class of 1986) and John P. "Jack" Rentz (Class of 1941) will be honored at halftime of the Stillwater varsity boys basketball game against Schuylerville, which starts at 7 p.m. in the Mike Lilac Gym. Immediately following the game, the inductees will speak in the new cafeteria. This event is open to the public.

- Leading scorer in basketball with 2,170 points
- Section 2 record holder for most points in a game - 57
- 1986 Chieftain’s Cup winner
- 6 years varsity softball
- 1982 softball sectional champion
- 1984 softball league champion
- 5 years varsity basketball
- 1984 league champion


Richard GoverskiRichard "Dick" Goverski

Graduated in 1961
Outstanding Physical Education teacher and coach

- Played varsity baseball, basketball and football from 1958-1961
- Played on the first football league championship team in 1960
- Played on the first baseball league championship team in 1961
- Taught physical education at Stillwater for 35 years (1971-2005)
- Coached varsity baseball at Stillwater for 18 years (1971-1989)
- Totaled 290 wins coaching at Stillwater and a career 301 wins
  (Heatly 1969-1970)
- 5 League championships (1979, 1983, 1984, 1986, 1988)
- Baseball sectional championships (1973, 1980, 1985, 1988)
- Baseball regional championship in 1988

- Played basketball and baseball
- Scored a total of 907 points in basketball
- Totaled 334 assists

- 1986 Troy Record high school player of the year
- Member of the 1986 WNYT all-star basketball team
- Played basketball at The College of Saint Rose
- 1000 point scorer at The College of Saint Rose
- Member of The College of Saint Rose Athletic Hall of Fame (2009)
- Member of the Capital District Basketball Hall of Fame (2009)
- Chosen as one of the Capital District’s top 50 players in the past 50 years in 2009
