Regional advocacy event to take place on Oct. 22

Oct. 9, 2013 – Stillwater schools must prepare children to solve complex problems, some that haven’t even been discovered yet.

One problem local children should not have to solve is how to continue to have access to the best education this community can provide despite ongoing losses in state funding and the rising cost of state mandates. Instead, you can help solve this problem by joining our community, along with school districts from neighboring counties, for a regional event to advocate for upstate schools with one unified voice.

The regional event, “Stand Up for Upstate Schools: Advocate Now!” will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 22, from 6:30-9 p.m. in the Queensbury High School Auditorium, 409 Aviation Rd., Queensbury. Featured speaker Dr. Richard G. Timbs, executive director of the Statewide School Finance Consortium, will discuss how New York schools have been shortchanged by an unfair distribution of state aid and the loss of nearly $8.5 billion in state aid to the Gap Elimination Adjustment. Timbs’ presentation is sure to spark your own ideas for ways to take action, but the event will also offer easy-to-use tools and simple tips for getting legislators to pay attention to our concerns.

Call the district office at 373-6100, ext. 30022 to join the team advocating for Stillwater schools. Walk-ins are also welcome to attend the event.
