Stillwater budget approved by voters

Interior repairs and bus propositions pass, three elected to board

May 21, 2013 – On Tuesday, May 21, Stillwater residents voted to approve the district's 2013-2014 proposed budget with 511 voting in favor and 211 voting against it.

The $22 million budget carries a 4.3 percent spending increase over the current year and a 1.93 percent increase in the tax levy. The tax levy increase is below the allowable limit set by New York’s tax levy cap law.

“I want to thank everyone who came out and voted today,” said Superintendent Stanley Maziejka. “This budget represents a real effort to reduce where we could, while still maintaining sound programs for our students. We are very fortunate to live in a community where people recognize the value of their schools.”

Additional propositions

The $245,000 proposition to replace four school buses was approved by a margin of 468 voting in favor and 212 voting against it.

By a margin of 502 to 207, voters passed a proposition to establish a capital reserve fund of $100,000 to make repairs to the HVAC, electrical and plumbing systems at the elementary school, middle school and transportation building. By a margin of 483 to 202, voters passed an additional proposition to expend the monies in the capital reserve fund of $100,000 to make HVAC, electrical and plumbing repairs to the three buildings.

Three candidates were elected to the Stillwater Board of Education. Voters elected Valerie Masterson (410 votes), Joe Greene (375 votes) and Timothy Ryan (319 votes).
