Stillwater music teacher awarded Union College's Gideon Hawley Award

Feb. 26, 2013 – Stillwater Music and Band Teacher, James Iacketta, was awarded the Gideon Hawley Teacher Recognition Award at the Founder's Day Celebration at Union College on Feb. 21. The Gideon Hawley Award is named after the 1809 graduate of Union College who became New York State's first superintendent of public education. It is awarded to a secondary school teacher who has had a continuing influence on the academic life of a Union student.

Iacketta was nominated for the award by Samantha Griffiths (Stillwater Class of 2011; Union Class of 2015) who is currently working on a double major in electrical engineering and English, and performs in the college's jazz ensemble and pep band.
