Students create mummies after exploring Egyptian culture

Feb. 7, 2013 – Sixth graders recently learned processes the ancient Egyptians used to bury their dead by creating their very over mummy and sarcophagus.

Students started the project by creating a life story for their imaginary Egyptian, giving them an occupation, family, and the usual trials and tribulations of life on the Nile River. Once the biographies were complete, students brought in a Barbie or action figure to represent their person. They then studied the steps of mummification before creating their own. Once the mummies were done, students created a sarcophagus, or stone coffin out of a shoebox.
