Stillwater students demonstrate use of iPads at regional technology tradeshow

January 15, 2013 – Stillwater sixth grade students and their teachers demonstrated how the iPad has increased student performance and motivation in English language arts and social studies classes at the annual NERIC Technology Awareness Day on Dec. 14.

During the hands-on workshop, students answered questions from teachers from throughout the Capital Region and the North Country. Sixth grade teachers Stephanie Buyce and Christina Decker were the teachers involved with the demonstration.

"Ms. Buyce and I were so impressed by all the students and how well they interacted and taught the educators at each table," said Decker. "The students were very confident giving step-by-step instructions and providing feedback to the adults."

More than 200 students in the Stillwater Central Schools are using iPads on a daily basis. The one-to-one iPad program, which was piloted beginning with one classroom during the 2010-11 school year, has now grown to include every fifth- and sixth-grade student in the district.

"It was great to hear other districts get motivated by the work we are doing with technology," added Decker. "I am delighted to be part of a district that provides technology for the 21st century learner."
