Stillwater Central School District “adopts” school devastated by Hurricane Sandy

District seeking monetary donations for library books, instruments

Dec. 11, 2012 – Stillwater Central School District has formally “adopted” Oceanside Public School District in Long Island, NY, which was devastated by Hurricane Sandy in late October. Four of the district’s school buildings suffered severe damage, and many library books and musical instruments were lost.

“Many upstate schools suffered a similar catastrophe following Tropical Storms Irene and Lee last year,” said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Stanley Maziejka. “Now, our downstate neighbors need our help. Oceanside will be truly thankful for any support we can provide to help rebuild their libraries and music opportunities for students, many of whom lost their own personal belongings.”

Oceanside does not have the room or manpower to accept and sort donated items. However, monetary donations are needed at this time. Please consider writing a check made payable to “Stillwater Central School District” and note “Oceanside Public School District” in the subject line. Monetary donations may be dropped off at any school building’s main office, the business office, or mailed to: Stillwater Central School District, 1068 North Hudson Avenue, Stillwater, NY 12170.

Thank you in advance for any support you can provide.
