Every Wednesday afternoon, volunteers help pack the BackPacks for distribution at the end of the week. PTA moms helped pack the first set of bags on Oct. 10.

Oct. 15, 2012 – Stillwater Central School District is teaming up with the Parent Teacher Association (PTA) and the Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York to start a new BackPack Program this fall. The program is designed to provide 30 qualifying Stillwater students with backpacks filled with nutritious food each week. The district is seeking financial and/or food donations through the Regional Food Bank and volunteers to help pack and transport the backpacks.

The bags will be packed each week by volunteers and discreetly distributed to participating children every Friday afternoon. One hundred percent of the donations go toward buying food for Stillwater students.

How can I help?

To make a monetary donation, download the informational flyer (PDF) and mail it to the Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York or go directly to the Regional Food Bank's website to donate. Please be sure to indicate that you would like the funds to be directed to the "Stillwater BackPack Program."

If you're interested in volunteering your time to pack or transport the backpacks, please contact PTA Co-President Kiki Wagner at kikimwagner@gmail.com.

For general questions about the BackPack program, please email Deanna Sargent or Tina Logan.

The BackPack program was started in 2007 and is now available at 30 schools in 10 counties throughout upstate NY. The program serves more than 600 students a week.
